I saw you on the 3DGS board. Does that app rock or what? I've been messing around with it for a year or so.

Hi there

I got it for Christmas, I've long loved the 3d Games and know some Visual Basic.  But, VB games are all clunky and, well, suck.  C is something I havent figured out (my brain just isnt wired to learn that dang language!).  But, I'm having a lot of fun slowly learning Delphi 6...and using DelphiX, the handles for Directx 8, I bumped into 3DGS.

3DGS is neat, I dropped $100 for the extra version, figuring if I hate it, I haven't lost a lot.  So far, I'm just reading the tutorials, and I am FASCINATED that there are so many, and that there are SO MANY people on the support BBS willing to take you under their wing.

I wish my laptop had a 3D accelerator in it.  I've been playing with the model and level editors, but I can't display any of my builds.  hehe, dammit!

What version do you have and how long have you been at it?  6 days and counting here!

For those tuning in late....

This is the development software we are talking about...
 http://conitec.net/a4info.htm

Its pretty fun.  Pretty easy for shooters, no idea how hard for flying stuff.

I have version 5.xx. At work now and don't remember the .xx. I've been tinkering at it around a year or so. I haven't had time to really get into it in depth with the exception of creating models in 3DS, animating them, then importing them into WED. That in itself was mostly trial & error because of the lack of documentation.

Anyway, if I can be of any help, give me a yell. I know my way around med & wed, I just haven't put anything together thats worth anything, lol.

Well, I'm finding there are tons of sites with tutorials and such.  That BBS is a goldmine of links.

It would be cool to make a shooter that picks up from when the C47 drops troops at a base   :)  Or craft up a special operations force.  There are a lot of models/guns already in there that would be fun to mess with.

Are you just using the scripting language with 3DGS, or using headers to work with it in Delphi/C ?

I'm starting out with the scripting for now, then as I am more comfortable with Delphi, play with the headers.

Thing is, its fun stuff.  Its awful fun to gawk at the MiG29 in the model editor and imagine the havoc that thing would do in the Main Arena!  hehe

Just using the scripts. Like I said, I've not done much of the compiling yet, just model importing and animation. I'm actually working on a little something that won't use much of the scripting but keeping that a secret.  :)

I'm a C++ user, but have used Delphi in the past.

Also, check out the tutorials on the web site. There is one there for a flight sim that works pretty well if you pick it apart. Also, someone is doing a driving sim but its a little ways from developement I understand.
