Well as this thread is about AvA I think its entirely appropriate that we discuss English Cuisine and Football.

Food first. Chalk sandwiches really are quite delicious if garnished moderately. Do Americans garnish Possum Pie?

Football. At least you didnt call it soccer. I lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma during the NASL days 70's/80's and I worked for Tulsa Roughnecks. Tulsa was soccer mad, A City of 500,000 with a Pro Team. Why it all failed beats me. General consensus is partly because game doesnt fit US style TV coverage, and partly because Americans insist on comparing game to 'American Football' which it aint!

We all favour our own sport but Football (Soccer) is factually the most popular national game in just about every country in the world except the USA. I always root for the USA when they play Internationals and they've come a long way in the 20 odd years since i lived there.

Finally, I would never dream of being critical about an NFL Team because I dont know all that much about the game and the personalities involved. I would suggest a deeper knowledge of MY game is required before passing derogatory critical comment of any kind. Dont you?

What the hell is Possum Pie?

No knowledge required DeeBee. They have lost the love for the game and are to caught up with how much "bling bling" they can fit under thier helmet, and what new moronic dance they'll do after a touchdown. Fire away with whatever you've got. It will apply.

I'm pretty sure that your assumption that because we're Americans we are not able to have a deep knowledge about the game of football to formulate an opinion, is by far the most derogative comment I've seen in this thread.

Pretty thin-skinned don't ya think?  You need to relax a little bit.  Especially after ya got busted dismissing the home team and whoring up for the glory of Manchester United.  You're like the English version of a Cowboy's fan of the 70's. :-)

Probably better than a 50% chance the team that wins the World Cup comes from a continent with the name America in it.  :)

Take it with a little grain DeeBee, it's just some good-natured kidding around. :-)

I would suggest that assumptions you are making about me personally are without merit. You dont know me or anything about me. Having lived in USA for 10 years, having worked in Professional football, and having watched the game for over 50 years, I think I am more than qualified to make general observations about American views and knowledge of my country's national sport. Lighten up? Im not in the least bit wound up about this thread. I find it all rather amusing actually but now getting a little hostile so Ive nothing more to say.

Hope you enjoy the World Cup.

it is a well documented fact that insects annoy people, don't allow yourself to be "bugged".  just repeatedly shoot the little buzzer down as he tries to flee to the comfort of the horde and friendly ack. you must also beware of the insect at 10k while the fight is on the deck.

You're 100% right DeeBee, I apologize.  Have a good day and I hope you enjoy the World Cup too!
