Yeah, I havent been around much.
I am now involved in the restoration of a 1944 wartime prime mover......

She is 121 feet long, and weighs in at 500 tons fully loaded.  our best estimate is another 4 to 6 years depending on money..

wow, cool pics!  I'm glad to see a locomotive and complement going to a museum.  Too many times old trains are smeltered and recycled because they are seen as just another piece of commercial heavy equipment, instead of an example of industrial technology.

nice gunnss :)

will it be restored to working order, or will it just be a static display type train?

Actually we are restoring it for opperation, were going to run 4+ excursions a year.  BTW the nick name for the 2900s was "The War Babies" and they could haul 159 loaded freight cars or 30 heavy weight pulmans.  Want to guess how many  Aircraft She hauled to California for the Pacfic theater?

I have said that the only thing cooler than WW2 planes is quite possibly steam locomotives.

Good luck on your venture.  Maybe you can bring her east sometime!

We would love to, But, the 2900s were the biggest 4-8-4s built, and the Clearances just arn't big enough back East.

Very cool, gunns. The old steam engines are sweet. I watch a lot of the train stuff on RFD-TV. Maybe you can get her featured on there.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.
