Good Friday is called kite-flying day here. Virtually the whole island takes the day off and flies kites.
Last year I had a WW1 Red Baron kite. Looked cool...but flew horribly.
The two years before that I had a simple canvas bat-kite" that was great. I had it hooked up to a fishing rod and could simply release the clutch and the thing would go straight up. When I was done I could just reel it in like a fish. Unfortunately a particular strong wind day ended its life after the spot where the kite tied to the string ripped and the kite flew away and ended up stuck in the middle of a bunch of trees...at the top.
This year my wife is away with my younger son, so it is just me, my oldest son (6) and Casey, my daughter.
We have a Star Wars style bat-kite and a Spongebob kite for Casey.
Gonna take a picnic basket, gloves and baseball, football (round one), the kites and a cooler of drinks. We will meet up with my sister and her family.
One of my favourire days of the year.
