I remember gas wars and $.16/gallon gas

My dad, rest his soul, used to say"let's go for a car ride, gas will never be this cheap again".  Needless to say he just loved to drive around and go just about anywhere on a whim

actually the Tundra doesent drink gas that bad, i bet it gets better milage than mine, and mine is a straight 6.

EDIT: the tundra 4x4 SR5 is rated at 16-18 city, and 20-23 highway.  that is about even with me, and I have half the weight, and only 4.0 litres (tundra has 4.7litre)

That's why our car have a lower consomation than the average US car (as far as I know) and why it's the 3rd factor in buying a car (after security and confort)
As StSanta said we have the pleasure to have tax on tax for 80% of the 3.5$/gallon.

Funked,
I use it to carpool, not single person commute.  Further I will be riding a bicycle 3 days a week.  All in all I will be using significantly less fuel than I did with my 4 cylinder '95 Nissan pickup.  Even if I used it every day I would still have lower emissions than I did with the old truck.  The V8 Tundra qualifies as a "Low Emission Vehicle".

Karnak, I'm glad you are carpooling.

Despite LEV status it is still a huge, gas slurping, road sloth.  If you were REALLY serious about the environment you could find something a bit more efficient in which to carry your carpool.  I think we should downgrade you from an environmental liberal to an environmental moderate.

Funked,
OK, I can live with that.

I'm a Fiscal Conservative, Environmental Moderate and a Social Liberal.

I did look at the Toyota Prius and my responsible side argued for it, but it can't carry enough and had a 6 month waiting list.  My "I wanna have fun!" side won out this time.
