Thoughts On Flying

Gotthis from an old UPT buddy:

FLYING
A landing is falling out of the sky. A good landing is falling out of the  sky with style.

Flying is simply a matter of learning how to throw yourself at the ground and missing.

Instrument flying is an unnatural act probably punishable by God.

As opposed to current scientific theory, the rings of Saturn are composed entirely of lost airline luggage.

Death is Nature's way of telling you to watch your airspeed.

The trick to flying a helicopter is to keep the bottom half from going around as fast as the top half.

Entry to the cockpit of some aircraft is difficult. On some others it should be made impossible.

The average airplane can't read how much time you have in your log book.

If you crash because it is somehow urgent that you fly into bad weather, your funeral will be on a bright sunny day.

Never fly the "A" model of anything.

There is no such thing as gliding a helicopter.

Learning to fly is like raising children. When you finally figure out how, you're finished.

The safest airplane in the world is one that can barely kill you.

A helicopter is a device comprised of twenty thousand parts, all moving in different directions, constantly striving to separate themselves, and often succeeding.

Some pilots look at their instrument panel the way a dog looks at television.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Autorotation and gliding are not necessarily the same

Heh, I certainly wouldn't call it efficient gliding, but a helicopter has slightly better than a 4:1 glide ratio while autorotating.
Can't be much worse than a deadstick F-16.
