Hi all,

I have a small request to the scenario management team. Couldn't you turn killshooter off and set friendly collisions on, too?

We would appreciate very much if that would be possible.

I also would like to thank you all for your effort in creating these rolling plane sets and scenarios. Very nice, a real challenge. Should check fuel burn rate to make it more real.

Although we could work with killshooter off , friendly collisions would be a problem.....it will add to realism but would b a problem when multiple people up from the same airfield at a time...

Yes with FC on I rarely have a collision while flying. However there seems to be no end to spawn collisions.

Kill shooter off  is fine. Friendly Collisions on adds nothing to realism. It adds to frustration, unless you live for spawn kills.

Killshooter is turned off more often than not. On occasion little tiffs arise and fragging ensues so it gets turned off. I hate to punish all for the actions of a few but in the end its the only effective way to stop the nonsense. In all honesty I sneak in and turn it off with out saying anything and see how long we can go till a catfight breaks out. Usually we can go quite a ong time with no problems. So im sure killshooter will be off again in the near future, I enjoy the immersion side of it. I feel the same about friendly collisions too. Having to coordinate your take offs for missions and be wary while you taxi and take off is pretty neat. Problems arise when you get a furball going and guys are trying to reup in a hurry and kill each other. There is an easy solution to it but according to the BBS most dont like it. Maybe we can try it again someday.

I understand the problem with FC on the ground...and I also agree that it would not bring much to the sim if no kind of "traffic control" is implemented...

But the killshooter turned on or off without warning...well, that's tricky... Well, the bottom line is: someone is going to be hit and go down. Instead of the guy that takes friendly fire, the one who fires the shot goes down...Well, I can live with that...What about having a message on the MOTD, something like "Warning: Killshooter off!"

Just remembered one thing...what about more clouds? Thicker and lower clouds...Afterall, the weather in the channel area is, to say the least, tricky...

That would add some spice, eh, eh...

Having the killshooter off can lead to difficult situations. Mostly those don't happen, we've had some setups run fine without any problems, then one day one fellow might get p'd off and switch sides after getting shot down to kill the one who shot him down... Even in a field gun, there's the possibility. Better not to shoot at friendlies than to wonder whether KS is on or off.

Friendly collisions - imagine a mission of bombers taking off, all formations launching simultaneously...

Clouds can't unfortunately be changed... They're built in to the map, so they're where they are. AFAIK?

Next time we run this, you guys might wanna reconsider what is a "rear" base and whats a "Frontline" base.

The closest German rear base to the channel is less than 5 minutes flying time from the Channel, while the Allies closest is A1 or A2. I went through a full half tank getting to Calais in a P-38J coming from the farthest forward I could find it- while the Germans can take up the recently enabled stuff from their "rear" bases, get to 20,000 feet and fly around 2 sectors into England by the time the Allies can get to the channel coast.

I know its supposed to simulate the fact that the Allies had to fly a long ways to get into combat while the Germans were over their own territory, but I think thats a big part of why we see nothing but Spitfires 90% of the time, no matter what stage of the war we are in. Right now only the Spit VIII, Spit IX and P-47D11 are available within 1 sector of the channel. The whole last time we had this setup, and so far in this one, I never saw a P-38, and only twice engaged a P-51 last time.

Some of us (myself and I won't name names ;) ) have gotten so sick of the endless stream of Spits that we've stopped fighting them altogether. As soon as we see the "SPIT" icon, we just reverse and leave. I have actually been flying the MA more lately, where theres actually the odd chance that I'll get to fight something different. In fact I fought more American planes in one night of the Main last night than in the past month in the AvA, which is pretty sad considering we've had an ETO setup the whole time.

Personally I would love to see a USAAF vs LW tour with no Spits, Hurris, Typhoons or Tempests, but I know it'll never happen :)

Introducing aircraft at rear bases actually is supposed to represent the fact that they were comparatively rare at that time.  It's about the only way we have to do that; if we make them available only at one frontline base, everyone will just fly them from there.

Unfortunately, the Spitfest has always been one of the problems with any ETO historical setup.  New players, and those who want to maximize their kill rates, will always gravitate to Spits.  In the 1941-42 period this is certainly historical, and happily the Spit 5 can be matched by the 109F and the 190A5.  It is less accurate after 1943, but the Spits were still there, and if we're going to be accurate we have to allow them.  The problem is exacerbated a bit by the fact that the P-47 is a challenge to fly against the 109s down low, and many folks tire of the steep learning curve.  Hey, each of us has to live with his own conscience.

This RPS demonstrates - pretty graphically, I think - that there was a lot of war before the US planes became numerous.  We're just getting into the American part now.  And remember that we often run USAAF-only ETO weeks here, and I'm sure we'll run them again.  In the meantime buck up, with practice even a G6 can handle a Spit 9 if you're careful.  (It's the practicing part that hurts, though.)
