Grits, I'm not sure it has anything to do with a lack of gonads, hiding behind shade accounts in-game and on the BBS probably has more to do with lack of self-esteem.
I mean this game is full of characters, folks get to know each other and their personailities become apparent to some degree or another. What I think happens is some folks genuinely do not like themselves, and when the community comes to know and understand who they are these folks tend to feel embarrassed and feel a need to hide from who they are. Lord knows I've stuck my foot in my mouth before and embarassed myself more than once, but I can acknowlege that and move on without a need to run from my own identity.
If it is not low self-esteem what else could explain the need to hide from yourself, or hide your true self from others?
