Wide screen support

I just bought a Viewsonic 20.1 widescreen. Nice monitor for the money($350 from newegg.com).
Are there any plans for AH to be compatible with the 1650x1050 widescreen format?
They are becoming more popular and the game would look great.
Thanks

You can use any res u want in AH as long as your hardware supports it . Manually edit the video8.cfg file in the settings folder to 1650X 1050  .

I tried editing it using notepad, not sure if I did it right, I still get the stretched version on the game(not proportioned correctly).
Can you school me 38ruk?
Thank you

First, only input resolutions that your video card are capable of.  Second, make sure your monitor or capable of using that resolution as well.

How about you tell us the model of  your Monitor and Video Card.

Try to find out what the recommended resolution for your monitor is and use that.

Bring up the map in the game and see if your radar circles are actually circles, or if they are stretched.

Just to let you know, since you want a widescreen resolution, you will not see more than 90 degrees field of view.  Instead, the game will crop or cut out some portion of the top and bottom.

In the end, widescreen means you see less for this game.

It's a Viewsonic VX2025vm 20.1" with optimum res. set at 1650x1050@60htz.
My video card is a ATI Radeon 9500 PRO/9700 w/tv out, 128MB.
The game runs great as well as all other apps.
I would be ok with losing a little bit off the top and bottom for a non-stretched, correctly proportioned view.
Thanks again.

Right click on your desktop/ hit properties /hit settings tab /click advanced box /click adapter tab/ click list all modes / That shows you all the compatible modes for your video card .  1650 X 1050 isnt supported by my video card ( a Nvidia 7800GT )  so i would be suprised if it was a valid mode for your 9500pro .   You might have to settle for the closest valid mode your 9500 will handle . Which, is what the original poster is wishing for - native support for wide-screen monitors that will increase the default FOV from 90 to something wider.

Just a guess:

If you want more than 90 degrees FOV, you will need a curved monitor to prevent distortion.

Finally figured it out. When I would save the notepad file , after resetting the video8 file to 1680x1050 ,it didn't have the .cfg extension attached to it. I don't know why so I "saved as" and typed in the .cfg and presto!
And does it look good! Everything is proportioned correctly now and the screen is full.
Thanks to all for the help and advice, much appreciated.

My guess is , 38ruk , Kermit de frog or Midnight  changed their name to But.
Or not!
Anyway the resolution factor on the new Viewsonic has made the game look much better than I've ever seen it. Wider lateral perspective and the better 1680x1050 resolution factor combine for a very clear view. No excuses now....
