I was watching Rome: Engineering an Empire on the History channel yesterday. They cut to this older guy and as soon as he started talking I thought it was familiar. Name up front was Peter Weller... and I thought... holy ****, that's Buckaroo Banzai.

...and it was. Turns out that the Robocop has a master's degree in Roman and Renaissance art and he teaches at Syracuse University.

FWIW, it was a pretty good show too.

Sandy,
I've been watching that show as well.  The Romans were damn smart.

Plus, Buckaroo Bonzai is an AWESOME movie :)

You sure it wasn't Robocop?

I thought Buckaroo Banzai was a documentary.

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension is hands down the worst movie I have ever seen.

Can't speak for the original because I've never seen it.
Do not attribute to malice what can be easily explained by incompetence, fear, ignorance or stupidity, because there are millions more garden variety idiots walking around in the world than there are blackhearted Machiavellis.

Yep. Except they were mean old "hey, we'll conquer YOUR world today!" types. ;)

If they'd only been peaceful, loving, kind and considerate, we'd have reached the Age of Aquariums by now.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Well at least when they conquered somebody they actually conquered them and took their resources instead of paying through the nose for them :)

But, but, but... that's so unsporting!

The Romans were big meanies and nothing you can say or do will change that.

Now we'll NEVER get to see the dawning of the Age of Aquariums.

That movie is a classic...no doubt.  Some of the most off-the-wall stuff you'll ever see.

Remember these famous quotes;

"No matter where you go, there you are." - Buckaroo

"It's not my g-damned planet, monkey-boy!" - John Bigboote (Christopher Lloyd)

"We are not in the Eighth dimension, we are over New Jersey. Hope is not lost." - Lectroid

"Lithium is no longer available on credit." - PA at Psych Hospital

and don't forget Jeff Goldblum as a cowboy named..."New Jersey"

:rofl

There was supposed to be a sequel called 'Buckaroo Banzai vs The World Crime League'.

It got tied up because of legal issues. Weller is still hopefull that it will be made.
