Freezing problems
« on: June 04, 2006, 08:33:12 PM »
Hello,

I've been playing Aces High 2 for about a month now, and I've been freezing during game play. I'm not exactly computer literate, I just got mine roughly 2 months ago. So I've been reading the forums and trying everything Skuzzy has said and yet I'm still freezing so I had to write. Here is a list of what I've tried:
     disabled my McAfee firewall
     disabled my Spydoctor
disabled automatic updates and everything else in Skuzzy's list on that
     specific forum
unchecked 1 of the cpu in set affinities
and set my compatibility to Windows 2000(because Windows XP is not
     listed)

Below is my Dxdiag files 1 and 3 requested by Skuzzy:

Hi Wayne22, other than getting your running processes down to 20 or so there is a couple of things you can try.

By processes I mean what is actively running on your computer.  hit keys cntrl, alt, delete and your task manager will come up.  from there you can see how many proceses are running. You need to stop all that you don't need. Typically, 20 to 25 running processes are all you should have running when you launch AH.

Also, I'm not sure what you have for a sound card, or if you are running onboard sound.  Do this.....start--->run...then type in dxdiag. Once the window loads click on the sound tab. You will see a slider that is labeled acceleration. Move the slider to the left one position. (if its onboard sound...AC97 for example... it should be set at the 3/4 position, hence the move to the left).

Onec done there, I would set my resolution to 1024X768 and 256.

Try that and see if its better.  Post here if its better or if it doesn't work.  Lots of people here  can and do help.

hope this helps a bit.

cheers,
RTR

The 81.xx video drivers have been very problematic from NVidia.

Could have something to do with the shared memory architecture they use on those onboard 6100s, but mine worked ok when I tested it.  Of course, I only used it for one day, and it was well before this patch came out.  And you have plenty of memory.  Could be sound hardware acceleration I suppose.

For drivers on that one I prefer either the Omega 66.93 or the DHZeropoint drivers.  The newest ones really dont give any gains for the 6xxx series cards that I can tell, and might introduce problems.  They are trying to tweak the newer 7xxx series cards and are making some booboos.  Upgrading drivers is not always the best thing to do unless you have problems with the old ones.

I looked at my processes and cpu usage and I have alot more running than I should apparently. I have just over 50 processes and about 16% usage so how do I know what is safe to disable or not?
