joystick mapping issue
« on: June 04, 2006, 03:11:13 PM »
Not sure if this is a bug or not.

Since downloading the new 208 patch, I get a question each time I log into the game asking if I wish to convert my old key mapping to this patch.  To which I answered yes.  Everything worked pretty good except one of my joystick buttons.  So after checking the mapping for it, I discovered it needed to be remapped to the way I had it before....no problem, 5 minutes later I was back to the way it used to be.

Left the game, came back.....same question about converting comes up.  So this time I say no, since I had already remapped everything.  Oooops (I guess) since now it was back to the way it was the first time I logged in.  No problem, 5 minutes later I was back to the way it used to be.

Left the game, came back....same question about converting comes up.  (Scratched my head and figured, lets try yes again)...Oooops (I guess), it was again back the way it was the first time I logged in.  No problem, 5 minutes later I was back to the way it used to be.

My question....why is it NOT saving my mapping after each time I get it set back to my old mapping ?  Do I need to delete some "old" configuration file in there and then try it again......sure hope not, it took me along time to get it where it was before this patch.  It is getting frustrating to have to remap every time I log in to the game.  Any help would be appreciated.

Look at your Settings folder and check the properties.  Somehow at first mine got set to Read Only and I couldnt save any changes.  The file you are looking for inside the Settings folder is Ctrl.cfg (I think thats the right spelling).  If you cant change the properties, rename it or delete it and then restart AH, it should recreate the file when you setup your controllers this time.

Thanks for the advice Star...

Tried your suggestion (it was read only) and it didn't get it done.

I noticed at the same time I was in the settings folder some *.jsm files that were not there before the patch.  They were archived.  So after I didn't get the fix with changing the ctrl.cfg file from read only.  I deleted those 4 jsm files and tried again.  I checked the settings folder after getting set back up in the game with everything correct and found 4 new jsm files (archived) with the new date/time stamp on them.

Thinking I might have found a fix, I went back into the game.....it asked that darn question again about converting and this time I told it NO, as I thought I had already done that a few minutes ago.  Still no workie.

Soooooo....went back in, deleted the new files....back to the game, told it to convert my old to the new.....fixed what didn't work.....left the game.... came back in.....got the darn question again.....said YES....no workie.

Its like it isn't "saving" what I am fixing.  Do you know, is the game going to always ask us if we want to configure our old to new ?  Or is there a point in time when a person gets it fixed that you can somehow go to a different screen and say........hey, I am happy with what I've got....please don't ask me again......I will change it if I need too !!!!!!!!

Mine fixed after the first time.  I havent had an issue since.  It sounds like its creating the files it needs to, I dont understand why its not recognizing them.  Is your Aces High folder in the normal place, or did you set it somewhere different than the default?

Thanks again for trying StarOf Africa....maybe Skuzzy or someone else at AH staff will have some ideas.

Oh, is the question message supposed to go away when it is set right ?

Wait.  Did you try using the "Default Map" button?  If not, try that.  Log in, answer the question thingie, then click Default Map.  Click OK and close out the control area.  Quit and restart Aces High.  If the message is gone, reset your settings and go, should be ok from there.  Duh, forgot I had to do that first time.  :)
