Reboots and Vox issues
« on: June 23, 2006, 12:20:21 AM »
Since I installed patch 3 my machine has been randomly rebooting while playing AH. Of the 3 times it has rebooted I was in a GV - I'm not sure what I was in the first time...

The only thing that has changed is patch 3 and the drivers for my Saitek X52.

Also, I seem to be getting a strange beep during vox transmissions once and a while - probably 3 or 4 times this evening - no it's not the channel beeps that can be enabled or disabled in the game options...

I'm not sure if I need to post any system spec's or any kind of log file but will be happy to do so if needed and I can get a little help finding the necessary info...

Thanks

AH cant reboot your system.

Go hunting for Spyware/Malware and viruses. And im not sure if a heat issue could make your CPU reboot, but i do not think so.

The beep during vox transmission.... could it be its that the person transmitting has chan beeps enabled and his mic is picking them up randomly while he talks? Also could be audio accelleration or drivers. A dxdiag is always helpful for troubleshooting :).

Thanks for the help Schaizi.

Spyware/Malware/viruses seem to be clean.

As far as the vox issues go I'm pretty sure it isn't channel beeps as it isn't the "same" sound...different key and very distorted...

I've never had any heat issues before but I'll check the temp out.

I'm not sure how to get a dxdiag log so I could use some help in this area...

Anyway I seem to only be having this problem in GV's. More specifically when I attempt to stop a vehicle (pulling back on the stick)

Again, any help is much appreciated...

Check the stickies in Tech Support Forum on how to get a dxdiag log.

Another thing you can try is: make a backup of your settings folder. Then delete it and restart the game (it will create a new one with default settings). See if the problem persists. If its gone, its somehwere in your Settings. If its still happening, well.... it could be anything from Saitek driver to Internet Woes :).

to get the Dxdiag log, click start/run, and type in DXDIAG. Click save info, and remember where you saved it too :)

Copy and paste the first 1/3 or so in the tech forums along with what your problem is, and hope for the best :)

Had a random reboot problem a while back. At first it was just when the game was on-line. Then anytime I use a video program (played a DVD, AH film or used a media player).

I looked for loose wires, tested power supply, cleaned hardware and software and added a fan as the vid card doesn't have one.

On a trip to Circuit City I went ahead and bought another 512 of RAM to get to 1 Gig. It improved reformance but not the reboots.

Almost as an after thought I removed the factory 512 and moved the new one over. The reboots stoped. Some of the chips on the old stick looked like the plastic had been exposed to heat where they meet the card. Kind of a dried out flat black with a ruff texture.

Needless to say I was back in town getting a match for the new stick of RAM.

If you can borrow some RAM that is compatible you may want to check this out, but only as a last or near to last resort. There are plenty of other things that can cause random reboot including a short in your joystick.(been there too).

Thanks for the help everyone. Some squaddies of mine had told me that it sounded like a lot of people were having issues with reboots since the patch so I thought my problem was a bug...Will repost with my dxdiag in the Tech support forum.
