How wide is my vision?
« on: December 28, 1999, 10:50:00 PM »
I'm not sure whether this question has been posted or not.
But I could not find it. If it was, please forgive me.
And I'll appreciate it if someone let me know where.

The question:
How many degrees of vision does my front(or other) view cover, horizontally and vertically, respectively?
For example, 45 degrees to right and 45 degrees to left can be viewed horizontally,
and 35 degrees upward and 35 degrees downward can be viewed vertically, each.
I will attach some pictures to help understanding.
Sorry for my poor English.

FOV should have the same aspect ratio as your resolution.

I'm so glad that you responded.
But, what I was asking was not that.

The width:height ratio of the screen is 4:3, of course (resolution 800x600).
But what I do not know is this:
If I see a plane as a dot on the right end of the screen (right beside the plastic monitor case),
what is the plane's position with respect to the direction of my plane's heading.
(I'm sorry, it is so hard for me to write in English.)
In other word, how far is the plane located from the guncross-line, in degrees.
What is the angle. (Can I say it as forward--aspect-angle?)
And what if the plane is on the top of the screen.
Please...

If your not zoomed in FOV is 90Deg or 45 left and right , the up and down field of view is less than 90 due to aspect ratio.

Thank you for the reply.
Then you are saying that FOV is about 34 degrees up and down? (45 times 3/4)
Hmm.. But I think even if I'm zoomed in, FOV angle should be the same,
because zooming is just moving my head forward. Isn't it?

Oh! After several minutes of thinking, I come to think that zooming is not just moving my head position. Maybe it changes my FOV angle.
If you are not busy, could you tell me exactly how narrow FOV angle changes?
Just curiosity this time.
