Need a lawyer (UK)
« on: February 08, 2006, 10:21:42 AM »
My mother wants me to have power of attorney cos she's getting too old and confused to deal with financial matters but I have no idea how to go about setting it up and don't wanna pay £400 an hour to do so.

Can anyone help?

Before you spend the cash on a lawyer go to her bank and have them supply you with the necessary forms to get the ball rolling.

I just went through this with my mom. Actualy, she went to her credit union herself and got the paperwork taken care of. IIRC, all that was needed was a notary.

Since this was in the USA, your mileage may vary.

This should help. POA is relatively simple.

Not free but cheaper than a lawyer.

13- Do not punt topics. Punting would be making a non-substantive post for the express purpose of bring the thread to the top of the thread list.

That guy has so many shades he's a freaking window covering company. I wish someone would stick a stake into his arse and give him irreperable brain damage. At least enough so he doesn't post any more.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Just did it today!.

Many samples are available on the net, modified it to my needs, and had it signed/sealed by notary. Total cost? 20min and $20.
Thats it. :)

Or if you just want to do simple financial transactions for her, ask her to authorize you on her account.

good luck
