Hmmmmm. Interesting topic Jebus. Based upon my current experience and limited knowledge of American history. I would have to say that a Confederate nation would fair no better then our current democracy. Actually I feel the only reason the confederacy did not win was because of their limited support abroad. If France would have came through. I think it would be a totally different story. Slavery became unpalatable at this time in Europe also.

C'mon man, don't make statements about stuff you proclaim to know little about.

I'm only going to say this once more.

By 1865, the CSA was coming apart state to state for the exact same reasons why the confederacy failed the first time.  It's just that in the war time environment, the failure was accelerated by increased economic situations.

by 1865 the south was indeed coming apart... it had all but lost a major war and was having its largest cities burned to the ground along with it's armies being destroyed.

Lincoln drove the first nail into the coffin of the freedom that was so hard fought for in 1776

Interestingly...  Jefferson originaly wrote a much stronger human rights constitution that soundly condemed the owning of slaves but it was rejected because it was just too much to deal with at the time.   The slave states were needed to form the union.

and... as it turned out... slavery was old fashioned and inefficient...  we later started using the your-0-peean method of misery when we allowed all the misserable, starving peasants to immigrate.

They were better, more skilled workers than the slaves and cost a fraction of a good slave and with little or no overhead...  If they died  from the misstreatment (which was very common).... so what?   You could just get another.

We were able to modernize to your-0-peean levels of misery in very short order... the south was just behind the times.

You gotta read both the quote and the response to appreciate the irony. Perhaps. :D

If I knew it was going to be this damn bad... I would have picked my own Damn Cotton!

yes... Jefferson was a large slave holder owning 100 at the time.   He was really torn by the inconsistency of being a slave owner and writing such a document.   Most of his slaves left while he wrote it.   He gave the others the choice to leave not much after his first writings were rejected..

The founders were all men who knew that they would be branded as traitors to the crown and hung if caught.  they all expected it.  Jefferson was extremely brave and a man who realized the hypocracy of slavery.   I would say that very few of us have ever, or will ever, show such courage and conviction.

It is probly pretty easy to make fun of a confederate flag if you live in NY city say.

He gave up everything for what he believed.

Yea it is as long as you stay in NY City while you are doing it. Gets a little more difficult the further south you go. :)

First of all i would woop this guys arsh if I had saw this.

I think it would be great. I do know that everything was owned by the men the house, buggy's, horses every thing so If the south had won the war and  nowdays if your wife left ya she would be well broke with nothing and not taking half of everything. I also think that more people would respect there country more. There wouldnt be the rush of people from outher countrys. And life would be more simple. Not to mention I'm from the SOUTH!! And my great grandfather was a (LTC. In the Miss, 11th Calvery):aok :O

This song sums up a lot about growing up in the south to me.

Ain't about my pistol
Ain't about my boots
Ain't about no northern drives
Ain't about my southern roots
Ain't about my guitars, ain't about my big old amps
"It ain't rained in weeks, but the weather sure feels damp"
Ain't about excuses or alibis
Ain't about no cotton fields or cotton picking lies
Ain't about the races, the crying shame
To the ****ing rich man all poor people look the same

Don't get me wrong It just ain't right
May not look strong, but I ain't afraid to fight
If you want to live another day
Stay out the way of the southern thing

Ain't about no hatred better raise a glass
It's a little about some rebels but it ain't about the past
Ain't about no foolish pride, Ain't about no flag
Hate's the only thing that my truck would want to drag

You think I'm dumb, maybe not too bright
You wonder how I sleep at night
Proud of the glory, stare down the shame
Duality of the southern thing

My Great Great Granddad had a hole in his side
He used to tell the story to the family Christmas night
Got shot at Shiloh, thought he'd die alone
From a Yankee bullet, less than thirty miles from home
Ain't no plantations in my family tree
Did NOT believe in slavery, thought that all men should be free
"But, who are these soldiers marching through my land?"
His bride could hear the cannons and she worried about her man

I heard the story as it was passed down
About guts and glory and Rebel stands
Four generations, a whole lot has changed
Robert E. Lee
Martin Luther King
We've come a long way rising from the flame
Stay out the way of the southern thing
