Core 2 chipset info
« on: September 21, 2006, 07:37:12 PM »
I'm looking at putting together a new Intel Core 2 box and ran across this review of chipsets by techreport.com. Thought I'd post the info for reference.

Here are the motherboards tested with their respective North bridges:

Asus P5B Deluxe Wifi-AP Edition - Intel P965
Asus P5W DH Deluxe - Intel 975X
Asus P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe - Nvidia nForce4 SLI X16 SPP
Asus P5NSLI - Nvidia nForce 570 SLI SPP

Their results were this:

"The Intel P965 Express chipset's mix of features, performance, and power consumption make it the perfect partner for Intel's new Core 2 processor and our Editor's Choice. Really, it's an easy call to make. The P965's upcoming CrossFire support kills the one reason we might have recommended the 975X. If SLI's your bag, the nForce4 SLI X16 is a solid—albeit power-hungry—option, but the more attractive nForce 590 SLI should be just around the corner. The nForce 570 SLI, meanwhile, doesn't even measure up to its own name, let alone to the P965."

Good stuff, I have been wondering about all the different chipsets. I couldn't find much. TY. I'm building a fantasy computer in my head. Kind of like Krusty is doing. :lol  It doesn't matter for me anyway. I decided I am going to wait till ddr3 comes around and by then conroe or something else will be something I can afford.

:cry :(  Too true!

Although, I'm getting a GeForce 7600 soon to stave off obsolescence until that time. :D
