White Square where gun site is & sound probs

I gotta friend that just singed up for AH, when he first enters the game everything runs fine but when he crashes, shotdown, his gunsight is a white box and he loses sound too, when this happens he has to exit AH and re enter to get everything to work again, he is using the voodoo 4 4500 AGP card and the Sound Blaster Live sound card.

Well, first thing to try out is make sure he has the latest drivers for both his video card and sound card, along with a reinstall of Directx.

The white square where the gunsight is normally indicates you have a virus.  Particularly, one of the hybris type.  There are very nasty and actually infect winsock32 as well, so they can play hell with your network connection.

Tell your friend to get an up to date virus scanner and check his machine right away.

Hiya's,
       What motherboard ???

Can say now on some boards SB cards like slot 3 or another unshared irq slot

If it's got via chipsets try SB in slot 3 and in bios assign ir5 to slot 3

Now windose in start/system does not show any irq conflicts !
So don't go by nothing errorwise showing as an ok irq setup

Post mobo make/model and cpu and i can try to help more precisely

Your friend has opened an email attachment with the w32.hybris.gen virus.  This is a very common virus that carries the potential to do serious damage to your computer.  Get/update an antivirus program to repair it.

There is no other cause for this in Ah.  He has this virus, whether his virus program is new enough to detect it is the question.
