HELP!! Frequent disconnects
« on: February 11, 2000, 08:51:00 AM »
OK.  I admit I dont have the greatest connection but its not THIS bad!  I average about 5 disconnects (infamous message Lost Host Connection) per evening.

I am running a cable modem on the Road Runner network and average about 10% packetloss across the internet.

How does AH determine if Connection is Lost?  My beacon may flash from green to red intermittently but when it does this, it turns back to green and once it does, I usually get disconnected.  Strange thing is that I host RW but I dont lose the guys off of the session.  Why does AH drop yet RW doesnt?  This is really gettting frustrating.

HELP!! Frequent disconnects

I'm not going to be much help but the internet path getting to AH is alot different from your path the RW host. And RW uses VERY little bandwidth wghile AH uses much much more. It's prbably because of the lost packets that the host dumps you as a bad connection. I'm guessing here at that.
I hate to say it but RoadRunner service is notorious for thier network losing packets.
Just about everyone of my "virtual" friends who I play Rogue Spear with and have RoadRunner are unable to host any session due to the bad packet loss.
Here are a few sites that have cable modem tweaks, tips and "how to's"   Maybe one can help you out.

 http://www.dwightsilverman.com/bigpipes.htm  http://navasgrp.home.att.net/tech/cable_dsl.htm  http://www.cablemodeminfo.com/cmbasicsx.html-ssi  http://www.speedguide.net/  http://www.cablemodemhelp.com/  http://www.cabledatacomnews.com/cmic/index.html  http://home1.gte.net/awiner/  http://home.nycap.rr.com/wlarmon/waybook.htm#Cable  http://home.tampabay.rr.com/philip1/cable.htm

I too have cable modem service but through ISPChannel and I have not a problem at all.
I very rarely see a warp and never have I been disconnected once from AH. But I fly less fequent than most anyway. Just a few hours, a few nights each week.
