Sluggish response
« on: January 04, 2002, 07:38:00 PM »
I've had this problem for a long time. Every three days or so the aircraft I fly in AH start acting like damping is turned way up (sluggish)- after a couple of days it goes back to normal again. It acts the same offline and online. Another symptom is when I activate auto-climb it reacts very slowly. Ive tried to turn off all possible background applications. I had the same problem before when I was running a different computer- I think this may be a Windows thing.

Athlon 1.2gig
FIC MB
256 DDR
WinME
DX 8.1
Gforce 256 with latest drivers
VIA AC97 onboard sound

Ive tried several different joysticks and still have the same problem with each. Right now Im using a Saitek X45.

Try turning off "ground clutter" with CNTRL-C.  It won't turn off the trees, but it turns off a sparkly ground effect that really slows me down.

Try using older versions of the Detonators.  The "latest version" doesn't normally work very well unless you have the latest model nVidia card to go with it.  Try the version in my sig. file and see if that's any better.

I have the 7.58, and that fixed the graphic's problem i was having.  But my Framerates are real low, and i to am getting slugish.  Is there a version above .58 that i can try out?

Sure, try later versions that are at least WHQL certified by Microsoft.  They tend to be the more stable ones.  Also with the generation of card you are using, it doesn't make sense to go to the very late model driver sets, as they tend to be optimized for the GeForce 3's and don't always work very well on earlier cards.

Give the 14.10's a shot and see what happens.  I think those are "official" and WHQL certified versions.

However, I am suspecting something else is going on here.  It doesn't seem right that the video drivers would cause such an on/off problem like that.  Are you very up to date with virus scanning software?  Are you running anything in the background that could be causing problems?

I already have clutter turned off and im using a WHQL driver. Ive also tried different drivers and different video cards. I have all background programs disabled. The only things showing when I ctrl-alt-del are systray and explorer. I cant believe nobody else has this problem. Ive had it on 2 different computers. Its definetly cyclical.
