Skuzzy-P5W DH DLX RAM Timings
« on: November 26, 2006, 07:06:22 PM »
RAM timings have always been a bit of a mystery to me.  What timings did you use on your Crucial / P5W?  If I leave the BIOS set to default - AUTO my RAM is detected as PC 5300.  I can  manually set the timing if I set it @ DDR2-800.  It runs fine at GSkill's  advertised 12-4-4-4 but I am unsure of the "DRAM Write recovery Time" setting. The choices are 2-6 clocks. Is this the old 2T or 1T option?  I haven't run any benches but it seeems to run fine at both I have tried 2 and 4.

Another note- PC Probe worked at first but now causes black screen and restart.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Have not messed with the RAM timings at all.  Be careful when pushng the timings on DDR2 memory.  That memory runs very, very hot.  I mounted a dead air fan above the modules to keep them cool enough to touch.

Without the dead air fan, I could not put my fingers on the RAM without getting burned.  Pushing the timings will make it run even hotter.

Skuzzy,
Thanks for the reply.  I sent Gskill tech support an email Sunday asking the same question.  I was surprised to get an answer from them already when I got up today.  They sent screenshots of the RAM and CPU  BIOS settings for this board.  They were 12-4-4-4 and the "DRAM Write recovery Time" set to 4 in the Turbo mode at 1.9 volts.  I already had it set there and ran MemTest 86+ for 12 hours with no errors.  My RAM heatsinks are just warm to the touch at these settings.  My Antec 900 Gamers case is set up with the upper HDD cage as a wind tunnel with 2 120mm fans push/pulling @ 1200 rpms on the vid card and lower half of the RAM.

BTW I took your suggestion and used 2 Seagate 320 perp recording 3GB/s drives. They are set up as EZ Raid 1.  My whole setup is actually very quiet so I think I can retire the water cooling.:)
