Fit, Yaris, Scion or None of the Above?

With all the testosterone fueled private vehicles flown by Aces High members, I'm wondering if any of you are interested in or operate or have bought for any members of your family the new compact Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris or Scion or similar munchkins?  

A neighbor loves her similar Toyota Scion Xb but my wife hates the box style, and I can't see that shape being anything like pleasant to drive on the highway.  Yet the price, fuel frugality and cargo utility are definitely appealing.

Reportedly these vehicles are big hits in Europe and Asia where high gas prices and narrow streets make compact vehicles much more desirable.

So what about them -- any of them have a place in your present or future stable?

I drive a Volvo and a BMW. The beemer has 2 wheels, the Volvo 10. The beemer does get a bit better mileage and is easier to park close to the stores and stuff.

Wife and I concluded these cars are mainly for kids.  We particularly dislike Toyota's idiotic speedometer on the center of the dashboard of the Scion and Yaris.  

So we bought a ... Toyota Corolla LE.  Just call us Olde Fartz.  But sure is comfy nice car.

And  they are fast.  European Ford Focus (RS) can top at 140+ and Civic (Si) can top mid-high 140s.

In addition to those you mentioned, have a look at the new Suzuki SX-4... Multi-mode all wheel drive, considerably more power than the mini boxes. Expect a Turbo model next year. It will be a factory entry into the 2008 WRC championship. 30+ MPG highway, all weather transportation on the cheap.. And 7 year, 100,000 mile power train coverage that's transferable. Received excellent reviews by Car and Driver and Road & Track. Just over $14k, well equipped, at $16k fully loaded (Stability Control, Traction Control, 9 speaker-6 CD changer, Cruise, power everything and so on).



Also consider the Nissan Versa. Nothing fancy, but reliable, inexpensive transport.



Don't overlook the newly reintroduced Volkwagen Rabbit. VW has had its share of quality issues recently, but they are improving.
