connection problems
« on: December 03, 2006, 11:17:50 PM »
I seem to be having internet connection problems lately

During squad ops I had major lag- like 5- 10 second pauses.  I've cable, and usually get a rock solid connection.

I've been in contact with my cable company, Comcast, but they seem to think I am an imbecile, and the problem is with my pc or cable modem

here's a trace of the route to aces high:

hop 4 seems to be the problem, and I suspect it is comcast's problem.  I downloaded a free ping program, and it shows 50- 100% packet loss at that hop.

Here's Comcast's response:

Thank you for contacting Comcast High Speed Internet.

I am sorry to hear of the difficulties you have been experiencing but hop 4 is
filtering just exactly as our security software requires it. It's usually
nothing to worry about, just a site that isn't responding to the traceroute. If
the next hop responds, then don't worry about it ... it's when nothing past that
site etc. responds that you have a true link failure. It is at hop 10 that the
problem is occurring on the attens.net. You will want to share these results
with the attens.net network as it's beyond our control or ability to fix.

Is Comcast correct?  I used a ping program and it clearly shows packet loss at hop #4 of 30- 100%.

Thanks in advance,

gos
