Ki-84 flap damage bug
« on: December 13, 2006, 09:06:06 PM »
pretty sure it's a bug -

usually when a ki-84 has it's *left* flap torn off from damage it will affect the flight envelope as though it's stuck in the down position. haven't ever experianced this with the right side, only the left side.

slowing up and droping the remaining right side flap will even things out, but it's a dreadful pain.

If the damage is supposed to model a "stuck flap" then how about leaving it attached in the down position?

I haven't noticed this problem on any other plane

Do a search. That's how it's always been, on all planes. It's not gone it's just jammed. Most that play the game would rather have it "gone" than jammed, or have 2 modes, jammed/visible or gone/missing.

Call it a flaw, if you will. HTC calls it a "feature".

Experinced this in the P-47-D11 last night...on the left wing....Flaps were retracted and the Left one got blown off but yet flight chracteristics felt like it was jammed in the down position...

Every flap on every plane in the game does it the same way, FYI.

It's not. It's just displayed as "gone", it's really jammed in place. Hence the reason why a LOT of players would like this changed.

Wouldn't a hydraulics failure cause the flaps to retract due to the airflow?  I can't imagine what could cause flaps to be jammed open.  Perhaps track damage, if the flaps are on a track.  But that's assuming that the flaps are down when the track's damaged.

Jammed, twisted metals, perhaps warped or just slammed into place by 50cal or 20mm. If you shoot the mechanism that controls the movement arms, the arms don't necessarily just go slack. They might stay out, because they can no longer receive the input/signal/whatever that tells them to retract.
