Ghost CV?
« on: December 25, 2006, 04:52:54 PM »
I was divebombing the rook CV in my P38L in LW Orange. Amazed that I did not hit it the first two sorties, I just filmed my third sortie to see why my aim suddenly sucked so bad. I was not suspecting anything abnormal, though.

After my 3rd attack I was really surprised I didnīt hit that CV again. Examing the film I was even more surprised. You can see me dive onto the empty ocean, the whole CV group is several hundered yards away! But even more strange, the empty ocean fired back.
In game, I had a perfect bombs solution when releasing my payload...

Here is the film

When entering the arena, my ping was the ususal stable 150ms, did not notice any lag or beacon light during my flights.

CVs have never been where they seem to be. Especially in the film viewer. I have several films where I make beautiful approaches and textbook hookings (including a successfult tower-out) about 300 yards off the port side.

Also, I remember one incident with a "split personality" CV, where half the arena population saw the CV follow its designated path along the waypoints on the map where the other half saw it happily steaming straight across Furball Island on ndisles.

Long story short: Do not trust the film viewer to display the CVs correctly (or is the ingame CV in the "wrong" place? - eeek :noid ). And do not trust CVs to be exactly where other people see them either.
21 is only half the truth.

Lusche,
I had actually spawned onto the deck of a CV, checked the map for left/right turn on launch and it seemed as though the CV was much closer to shore than I had ever seen before, so sat on the deck while we steamed directly through an island, which could have been FurBallIsland on NDIsles, I really can not remember, but from the time we crossed the beach, the CV was was playing subway, while my plane seemed to skim the top of the ground, plowing through buildings, trees, bushs and any other things that "appeared" to be in the way.
Upon crossing the beach on the west side of the island, the CV reappeared, and I took off as though nothing "strange" had happened.
Others in game said I was nuts, because to them, it was going around the island.
I am really glad Schatzi posted, because I was thinking maybe that had been one of my "lost weekends".

Also hosting the eXtreme Air Racing League, from time to time we launch off a carrier. As CM in God's Eye view, there often are planes scattered all over the ocean, but always get into the air.
CV's are not trustworthy to be where you see them, and it is not just you.
