Gamma problem
« on: June 14, 2001, 06:02:00 PM »
I was having trouble with either my monitor or my card, in that the screen would sometimes flicker and get far too dark. Among other things, this made AH unplayable.

What seemed to work was adjusting the gamma control manually. The effects of this adjusting did have an effect inside AH, and I could see again.

Somewhere along the line, my monitor/card stopped having problems, but the gamma inside AH now is *stuck* at a very dark blue. No longer does adjusting the gamma outside of AH have any effect on the brightness/color inside AH.

Everything looks fine and normal now... with my desktop and with other programs, but as soon as I load up AH, whammo, it's back to dark blue.

I'm stumped.

I should add.... when I start up AH, or even just alt-tab back into AH from the desktop, my screen goes black for a split second and makes a noise almost as if I turned the monitor off and back on. I don't know if this is normal.

Nash, try booting into safe mode and then check the device manager (right click the "my computer" icon and choose properties) for duplicate entries of hardware.

Wow Straffo - you were right... Changed from 1024 x 768 down to 800 x 600 and whammo.... The color is normal!

Thanks too Seeker, I checked that and couldn't find any duplicate hardware entries.

I also reinstalled my video drivers and installed DirectX 8.0, but those didn't seem to have an effect.

It was the changing of the resolution. However, I bought a Creative GeForce2 32MB card just so I could play AH at the higher resolution... When I switch it back to the higher rez, it goes dark again.

Now that the problem seems to be isolated, do you have any ideas on how to get the normal gamma at the higher resolution?

Thanks tons for the help so far!

Hmm... seems that the normal gamma is there when I use the resolution setting 1 step higher than 1024 x 768... so the problem is right at the 1026 x 768 resolution.

Weird...
