Newbie problems
« on: February 01, 2007, 07:21:59 PM »
I'm sure this is probably a very dumb question but I can't figure it out.  I just loaded the game and got my joystick calibrated.  I went into the offline practice section (with auto take off ON) but I can't get off the ground.  Any help would be appreciated.

Well theres two problems that come to mind off of the top of my head:
1: your engines not running/turned up to full power

Fix:  To fix just either hit the addition sign on your keboard to give it power.  This is a temporary soultion, as it is a hastle to do,  if you go to options>>map controlers(i think), scroll down till you see throttel 1, then it will tell you to set what button you want, choose z-axis if your joystick has a throttle.  If it doesn't then set it to a button(s) on the keyboard.  While you're in this mode, you should also set your y and x axis(if not already set) go up till you see it says x-axis, and set it to roll (airlon) and then sett the y axis to pitch(elevator) and you're set to go.  if your engine isn't running, simply press e

2: your graphix aren't working correctly

To fix this, you might have to expirament around,  go under the website and browse around fixing things to make it lower detail.  To tell if graphix is your problem, jsut see if the enemy planes are flying around and actually moving.  if not its a surefire thats the problem

while youre under the editing process, you'll notice you have minimal ammo, to change this, go to options-arena settings-environment-arena settings-power ammo mult, set multiplier to 10.

Hello Mercracing!

First you need to set the Joystick fully up in game. The basics are mapped by default, but just those... :). HERE  is a help file on how you map your stick in game. You need to set the

X axis to Analog input Aileron (Roll)
Y axis to Analog input Elevator (Pitch)
Z axis to Analog input THROTTLE1

Also, set one of your easily reachable 8-way hatswitches for views (most of the time one is already set by default, but better check on that).

The links below will give you a start on how to takeoff and fly.

How to fly:

http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/flightcontrols/flightcontrols.htm

Takeoff and landing:

http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/landingfield/landingfield.htm

Also a very important thing to do is setting your views! After all you cannot shoot someone you dont see.
http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/views/views.htm
http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/overthenose/overthenose.htm

Generally, lots of reading, practicing and most importantly HAVING FUN doing it will help you improve fast.

http://trainers.hitechcreations.com - The official homepage of the Aces High II Trainer Corps - a collection of our help files. On this page you can also contact the Trainer about scheduled sessions (in the ONLINE Arena). Of course you can always come back here and ask if you have any problems.

As for chaning the ammunition amount: The ammo you get by default is the historical set. In any online arena, ammo is always set to that amount. While its true that you can "boost" that in offline mode, and I usually do that for gunnery practice sessions, its not something you should "get used to".

Welcome to Aces High.

First, thank you everyone for trying to help me with my little problem.

When the sortie begins I am on the ground and the plane starts itself.  Once the engine is running the engine noise stops completely, but the prop is still spinning.  I can see other planes flying around but I can't move.  I went through all the joystick setup and calibration steps.  According to the setup screen everything is working correctly, but when I'm in the game though the only thing I can control with my joystick is firing the guns.

According to the controls section the throttle is going up and down with the lever.

Do you have both modes mapped? Mode1 for planes and mode2 for vehicles?
Also, make sure that the right mode gets selected at spawn (for that youll need to check the box "autoselect mode at start of flight" in controller setup.

Normally this would mean your throttle is working but I suspect you may be changing the engine revs! Not the same thing. Engine revs affects the prop pitch in AH and in the early stages just leave it on the default maximum.

Use the  -   and  =  keys by your backspace key for throttle control.

I hope you are not confusing the joystick with the throttle lever. Some people totally new to flying may try moving the stick forward for forward speed. In aircraft it is your pitch control (elevator)

Edit
Ops, just noticed that with that joystick I doubt you are that green on flying. Perhaps you just mapped the RPM lever to your throttle instead of the Actual Throttle axis. Changing PRM at idle throttle will make no difference as you sit on the runway!

Thanks again for the help everyone.  I don't know what is going on with this thing.  Now I can get the plane off the ground and fly it (very poorly) with the keyboard.  The joystick is selected as the default controller, but the only thing it is controlling is the firing of the guns.  Oh well.

Mercracing,

You may have selected the joystick as your contoller, but you have not yet set (or mapped) what it does in the game. That is why it isn't doing anything. If you look at the picture below you will see my joystick is set to control Roll on the X axis and Elevator on the Y axis. This part is what yours should look like Your Z axis would be set to Throttle1 (Not RPM) (I have another device controlling throttle so I use the one on my stick for prop RPM!)

To set it up you would click on X-axis to select it, then click the Modify button to select the input you want.

When finished on all axis and buttons you click OK

My buttons are used by some software and so not available or visible in the picture. If I get the chance I will replace the picture and edit so it would be closer to what you should see. Edit see the second picture I added

The picture below shows my joystick with nothing mapped to it. Although it may be selected it will not yet do anything in the game because it needs the inputs mapping. Also you can now see some of the buttons (you would need to scroll down to see tham all!). The main things to assign to buttons can be found in the link to the quick reference guide. Print it off for reference. Quick Reference Guide

Last point, after you have mapped the joystick, calibrate it, and make sure that you follow the instructions properly.

maybe it's because u dun have any throttles. same thing happened to me long ago. took me about 1 week to figure it out. either that or i'm real stoopid. :D

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.
