I just got a cable modem and...
« on: August 13, 2001, 05:04:00 AM »
I remember some posting some fixes/enhancments available on the internet but can't find them. I have a problem with the bandwidth constantly changing and loosing host in AH when flying online. I expect bandwidth variance to be related to load in my area but this happens even in the off peak hours, like 5 am. I also have problems with explorer not finding pages and having to close and restart it.

Any hints would be appreciated. I can't seem to get any satisfactory answers from the local tech support (that seems to only work banker's hours).

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

Check this site out http://www.dslreports.com/  ... and find your ISP and check in there with fellow users to see if its a common problem ... then go to "tools" to check performance.

Also D/L Dr.TCP .. to make changes.

"Down-load DRTCP. Open it and enter 65535 for TCP Receive Window (RWIN). Set everything else to Default with the tabs. Then clear TTL, and Max Duplicate ACKs. Tab to Apply and click it, Exit, re-boot, re-test, re-post.
Turn on time stamping using drtcp and try lowering your rwin to 32767 and MTU should be set to 1500. Don't worry about the retransmission thing. You will see the re-trans vary throughout the day, and be gone at times. This is just the living, breathing Net. Set your rwins at 32727....test as early in the morning or as late at nite as possible. And just shoot for a good transfer rate above 85%..then leave it alone....

Hope this helps  :D

Your modem wouldn't be a USB type would it? I have heard these can draw too much juice on the usb port and cause these kinds of problems. If it is ask for a NIC card and modem

Thanks guys, appreciated. BTW Hotrod, I use a net card and modem rather than usb.
