Help with lockups.....now can't get past title screen
« on: December 11, 2001, 03:35:00 PM »
As the title states.....

First I was gettin a complete system freeze when playing AH.  Sometimes I could fly for about 10-20 minutes, other times for just a few seconds.

Then, I did a complete fresh re-install of AH and was getting locked up just as I got to the tower.

Now, I did another complete fresh re-install and the system locks up right after I hit the exe icon, when the black HTC screen appears.  A complete system lockup.

I also tried different vid drivers, presently using the nvidia 23.11's.

System specs:

K7S5A mb using the SiS 735 chipset/DDRram 512
GeF2mx 23.11 drivers
XP1800 processor
cheapo pci128 sound card (love it btw)
W98se

I am at my wits end about this....I NEED MY AH FIX  ;)

Thanks for any help or suggestions in advance

DO NOT USE 23.11 DRIVERS!!!

How many times does this have to be repeated.

If you start to get lockups and problems, uninstall the NED and use a WHQL certified driver untill you sort out the problem.

Usually the problem is the NED itself and gets corrected by installing the older driver.

What version of DX are you running?  Get Dx8a or if you can't find that dx8.1.

I'd also go to SIS website and see if there is an AGP driver for their boards.

Try the 12.41 WHQL driver.

Have you installed this driver?
 http://www.sis.com/support/driver/utility.htm

Go down the page until you see the AGP driver.  The first one listed is for your board.  No games will work right unless this is installed, and things will work best if you install this driver right after windows. I'd try installing it now, then reinstalling DX and your video card drivers (try the 12.41s first).
