boot.ini question
« on: May 08, 2007, 10:50:03 AM »
I ran the patch and did the registry change as outlined in Skuzzy's locked thread in the tech support forum. I just went from an old CPU to a Conroe core.

RedTop posted his specs, and Odee or TexVA or somebody mentioned he should have a line in his boot.ini and was mentioning the /usepmtimer line, but I noticed something else in there.

"/numproc=2" was also on the same line.

I tried it out. I didn't get any BSDs but didn't notice anything good either.. What does this do? My first intuition is that it specifies to the OS that there are 2 processors instead of just 1.

Is that automatic, and should I remove this option from my boot.ini?

Number of processors is set by the Windows HAL.

Single CPU HAL = ACPI Uniprocessor PC
Multiple cores/CPU HAL = ACPI Multiprocessor PC

You can check the HAL used from the device manager under the "Computer" entry.
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T
Asus M3N-HT mobo
2 x 2Gb Corsair 1066 DDR2 memory

Found this for ya, Krusty.

/NUMPROC=

Specifies the number of CPUs that can be used on a multiprocessor system. Example: /NUMPROC=2 on a four-way system will prevent Windows from using two of the four processors.

Well my HAL is listed as "multiprocessor" under the device manager where Kev said, and Sun found the general description of it... I'm going to leave it in place.
