Joystick Problem or USB Port Problem?
« on: July 07, 2007, 03:22:53 PM »
Hi, guys.

I've enjoyed my Thrustmaster Top Gun Afterburner II for about a couple years, now.  Over the last few weeks, though, I've noticed problems that are getting progressively worse.

My stick and throttle are spiking.  The throttle is getting especially worse--during the fight, I can actually hear my engine throttle down for a few moments, then, firewall again without my input.  lol -- sucks.

I see all axes and the throttle wavering both in Windows XP and in Aces High.

I'm assuming that the problem is with the stick itself.  But, thought I'd ask if anyone here thinks it's the drivers behind my USB ports on this ancient computer (several years old).

Not sure if I should go buy a new stick or that Belkin USB Hub  that someone else was recommending a few months ago.

Thanks for your input.

Sounds to me like your stick is popping its clogs fella...........powered hubs are good for ensuring your sticks aren't causing snags with your usb onboard ports.....the spiking will be your pots etc dying.....could try increasing the dampening, but that will only help so much.....personally i'd by both.....powered hub and a new stick.....but thats just me.....lol

I've had spikiness that was solved with a powered USB hub.  You could try a powered USB hub first (as they are probably about $40 or less and are useuful to have even if you end up getting new other equipment later).  I'd get a D-Link or Belkin powered hub or some other name brand rather than a cheapie no-name band.

Alright, thanks for the input guys.

Normally, I would've played it safe by trying the least expensive option first (trying the hub), but seeing how badly my stick was spiking, I figured it's time to go with the gear.

I purchased a CH fighterstick today.  And, I'm waiting for a CH throttle & CH pedals to arrive later this week.

It's Wurzel's fault that I'm a lot poorer now.  ;)

j/k...I look forward to trying out the new gear.

ah, nice!  Good luck to you, as well, with the new gear.  :)

i've already tried the fighterstick offline.  it feels nice, but i'd like a bit more tension in movement.  and, there is no way to fight effectively with just the stick.

let us know how the gear works for you once you get it.
