vaction to Hawaii
« on: July 15, 2007, 03:31:48 PM »
I just got back from a 11 day vacation (bragging) to Hawaii.   The 1st day we went to Pearl Harbor.  If you can afford to go to the islands for vacation I suggest going there.   There are no words to describe Pearl when your there in real life.  The tour and going to the site was just a mixed bag of feelings.  Myself and my wife did the Missouri battle ship and the Bowfin and the sub memorial (didn't do the air muesum only 6 planes).   We did the rest of the islands from a cruise ship but after that 1st day the rest was just plain.  I do have pictures if anybody wants to see them but like I said you just can't feel it unless you go.

Lived there 4 years.  You could see the entire harbor from my back yard.  Yes, if you are ever there, the Arizona is a place you must visit.  If it doesn't stir something deep inside of you, well, get the f*** out of my country.

Went to HI in 2000.   Went to the same places too!    Went out on the first launch to the Arizona. It was very somber.     Went to the Missouri and was in awe at the size of those guns!

Bowfin was interesting.   It was very clean and polished.  Not like the USS Torsk in Bawlmers Inner Harbor.

Glad you got to see it.

Now, next time...rent a Harley on Maui and ride up the Haleakala Volcano!

Riding up from sea level to 10,000 feet (in only 37 miles) and above the clouds is awesome too! ;-)

We rented a chrysler crossfire convertible for the ride . The temp sea level was around 92 when we got to the top it was 57.  The view was crazy.  we can see  the mountains on the big island peak to peak 80 miles away.

I frequently ride my friend's  Harley (Deuce) on an hour ride each way along the ocean to the North Shore from my house near the beach in Kailua.  :D

BTW- Been to the Arizona may times.  I even took my Japanese wife, her Mom and Aunt there.  A very emotinal experience for them as well.  I plan to visit the Memorial in Hiroshima, as well.
