38L was in October 44 in the ETO from what I can tell and late September/october 44 in the PTO

When you say 'service dates' do you mean the date that the very first unit was accepted for delivery/commission by the military in question? Or the date it was placed into active service?  Lil' confused here.

F4U-1 was in action by March/April of 1943 in the PTO, not 1944. F4U-1A was in use by late-1943
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Active service.

For example, the first Spit XIV squad went active on Jan 3rd, 1944.  First kill was March, 1944.  Offensive sweeps in May, 1944.
