Although it can be a pain in the a** waiting all that time to get alt to bomb a target, my take is that anything can still happen between take-off and level-off. Trust me, it (or sh**) has happened between just those two points, such as missions being intercepted early. I'd rather take opportunities like that and kill the interceptors who were observant enough to spot us- they are doing thier job after all as well.

To spawn at historically correct altitudes to me is quite gamey, and subject to possible air-spawn campers especially in highly contested areas. No thanks.

for another fine buff run!

30k is only 4.5k short of being max alt for a 262... im supprised u could keep up with the 17s up there to shoot them.

i think we need a good HQ model, or strat that criples countries... It was always fun defending HQ raids because it was so important, now i generally just up a goon with supplies instead......

Tonight was the Knits turn to gett bombed in LWO. You guys were persistent in chasing us back home. Out of four formations of B17's and one escort, FlaydONE's and mine were the only ones to survive intact. Flayd landed three kills, and I landed six.

Knights. That was some intense fighting at 19K!

This was a lot of fun.  I was flying escort in a P51D and I counted 14 cons chasing the buffs at one point.  After mixing it up with an F4U4 I found myself flying about 4K under them all as they chased the buffs.  Even as I climbed back up through the red cloud the cons were so fixated on the buffs I managed to get a couple of them as they flew straight and level.

Fun mission Egg.   201st Thundereggs.

To make bombing raids viable, you simply need targets.  Targets that are worth hitting as well so defenders would make an effort to defend.  Both would put more bombers in the air.

As a general rule the 71st doesnt do bombers all to often....

However it just might be that you'll see 90+ of em sometime soon...
The broom is up and a 71st sweep is in the works. From what I understand at least one will be a buff run. Last sweep had roughly 60 of "us"...so you could see 120+ buffs plus escort.

The people you need to target are those that want to fly large hi alt buff raids, that dont need to capture, simply go on a mission to bomb something. Then you need to find the types who enjoy keeping those guys alive. Lastly you need people who like to kill bombers and their escort. The target itself is simply the stage.

Personally I love the high bombing runs. The climbout (please no spawn points) gives me time to go afk for food, drink, ect. Then the setup and release from at least 20k, and getting to watch through the sight to see if ya hit what ya want. All before the "enemy" gets to climb up to you. I also personally see the map as the target. I don't place much value on "score", more likely to help other pilots with their 1 on many situations.

Anyone can make a beginning regardless of their country.  Find a tall base.  Do your math: after a bit you can calculate alt and time from the runway to 20 to 30K.

Also, for fun, take a Lanc with the six 1,000 lbers; or with the 500's and lose the 4K bomb.  Check your rate of climb.

I ran afternoon and late morning buff runs in Bishlandia frequently when I last played.  Always found some folks who wanted to learn how to bomb and were patient.  Rarely the kids.  But young adults and older, yes.  It's fun to help folks improve.

Last Thunder Egg mission I recall vividly was the HQ raid with something like 15 to 25 pilots @ 30K.  Oh, the JU88 run I recall too.  We needed 5K more on that one :P

Always fun.  Always worth joining.
