CH Fighterstick
CH Throttle
CH rudder peds
All can be found at http://www.provantage.com for the best prices. The three componants aren't cheap but it's really the best bang for the buck.

If that exceeds your budget, the next step down would be a Saitek X52...about half the cost of the CH gear. Trouble is, a twist stick rudder input doesn't give you the same "feel" as pedals. Saitek gear also seems to have problems, sooner or later, with joystick input in terms of "mushy" elevator and aileron input...i.e. X and Y axis.

Speaking as someone who's owned just about every joystick set-up there is, I'd highly suggest you spend the extra $$ and go with CH Products.

CH was the first thing that popped into my mind, and I think I'll go with it.

Denholm, tips about ways to memorize the places of buttons, there seems to be about a hundred different ones, not to mention ones that use shift or a combination of it.  I can fly alright, land alright, and take off alright.  I just can't remember which button does what alright (unless it's major, IE gear).

Usually I just use buttons L for lights and G for gears. Nothing else, the rest is mapped to my X52. This includes Rudders, Ailerons, Elevators, Flaps, Throttle, Trim, and a few more things I can't remember. The rest I just pretty much click around on in the cockpit since I have no use for mapping them to my keyboard or game controller.

Vat-Sim is kinda hit or miss.

The problem is that the areas of control are here and there, but not anything like real world ATC... You might have Local control at some fields, but no ground control., or approach and Departure control but no Center.

It all depends on time of day.  Because there are so few aircraft in the system the guys playing controller want to assign vectors and Altitude even if you are flying a STAR or SID or just shooting approaches at an uncontroled airfield.

Before the time I was 2 years old my father knew that ATC was the perfect job for me. I was a bossy little booger that never stopped talking.

True, however KLAX (LAX International) is a great Airport to be at around 4:00 Central (PM). Three days ago I was at LAX, they had Ground and Tower. Yesterday I was at LAX again and they had Tower and Control. So, like you said, hit and miss. Yet overall they DO have ground control, it just rarely pops up.

Can you make in-cabin announcements?

You know, like:

"in preparation for landing please stow the tray into the seatback in front of you, and return the Stewardess to her up-right position"

That would be cool :)

LOL,

If I want to do that I go up to the control room and watch them in one of the sectors..... I work "Mids" at an ARTCC (ZAB), our facility handles an average of 5500 flights a day. It is kinda like watching some one using a hand pump to fill a swimming pool, lots of the same thing over and over.
