Trees,twigs n dirt
« on: December 20, 2007, 08:17:05 AM »
I'm sure this has been addressed before, but its buggin me so much I have to bring it up...

Is there any good reason why the terrain in this game is so freakin rigid?

Aside from ground craters, it takes NO damage.  Isn't it a bit silly that a a two ton Tank is stopped by a tree branch! An armored vehicle is flipped over by touching the side of a hill..2000lbs of ordinance is dropped on a GV in some trees and nothing is damaged!!??  It goes on, but you all know/have experienced what I am saying.

I'm not asking for total realism here, but c'mon - TANKS KNOCK TREES DOWN!  gettin stopped by a twig just makes me nuts.

I am not a programmer and have no real idea how much work/time would be neccessary to remove some or all of these absurd unntural game restrictions, but it has been done in other sims that will go unmentioned, so it IS possible.  Anyway, this is the "wish" forum so:

I WISH we could drive a TANK through buildings, especially ones that are already blown to bits.
I WISH we could knock down trees with, HELLO: a FREAKING TANK, or at least go through the branches for crissake!
I WISH when I drop BOMBS on a GV shading himself, there was nothing left but toothpicks splinters and a burning hulk.
I WISH when I hit a tree like a freakin noob, at least the tree goes down too!
I WISH...you guys fill in the rest.

oh yeah, I WISH there wasn't some perfectly good and sound reason why all of this can not be done and I just have to shut up and put up with it like we have been doing all along

It's simple.Because the terrain is simple. And because it's simple you can play it on a 800mhz machine,256 ram and 5 years old video card.

Simple ain't it?

Agreed with Croduh, implementing all this will kill your frame rate, not to mention making it will take more time than it did making the new tiles.

I wish I had a Computer that could track the status of all 6,000,000,000
trees and still be able fly.

Speaking of mountains, every once in a while I will take a jeep and spawn at TT. All I will do is climp to the very top of the mountains and then proceed to drive to the enemy V-base.

Throw it in neutral and go ZOOOOOOM across their field about 200+ mph :D
