Maybe we should sell a couple of these to Georgia. The RQ-3A Darkstar UAV. They fly at over 45,000ft and it's stealthy. They wouldn't even know it's up there.

This may seem stupid to ask, but what acts as the rudder on planes and UAV's of that style?

See how the left aileron appears to be up and down?

This creates zero lift while adding drag. Using drag the onboard computer steers the the UAV much like a normal vertical stab.

See on the left wing it has the double ailerons. By opening the top and bottom ones at the same time it induces drag on that wing and turns it left. Same goes for the right side. To bank it left only the top one would deploy on the left wing. To climb both the top ones would deploy. Deploy both sets on both wings and you have a speed break. More or less the same flight control set up as the B-2 Bomber.

Oh, thanks Strip and Hornet, was always curious about that. Does that setup work as efficiently as a conventional rudder or does it work better?  :salute

Until the advent of fly by wire it wasn't very effective. The first large scale flying wing, the YB-49 had major stability problems with the initial design. Latter test versions had small tail fins installed to improve latteral stability, but even that didn't solve the problem. Took anouther 50 years before Northrop was able to solve the problem and built the B-2. With computer controled flight surfaces, those controls are constantly making adjustments that the pilot never even sees to keep the plane pointed in the right direction.

As far as being more efficient, it's kind of a two edge sword. The control surfaces have to do more work to keep it pointed forward, but the upside is that you don't need a tail section on the plane so there is a huge savings in aerodynamic drag being reduced. That makes the plane more efficient overall. Less drag, more speed and range for less required power from the engines.

Well, at least they are good at shooting down unarmed, non-maneuvering drones!  Done their country proud!

Don't forget KAL 007.  Apparently they can shoot down non-maneuvering airliners, too!  (although I'm sure they thought it was a spy plane since its flight number was 007)
The fight is the fun........Don't run from the fun!

....

It's a 1994 map indeed. Since then Georgian regime abandoned Adzharian autonomy and started a manhunt against Adzharian almost-loyal leaders.

Last time I have been to Sukhumi, Abkhazian capital, was in 1990. Even after first armed clashes it was a beautiful city. My family friends, Georgians, had to flee their home and now live in rural central Russia. I also had a guy in my group in the Uni who lived there. He got all that 1992 war while being on vacation... In Spring 1992 I was hiking with kids in Western Caucasus, after finishing our route we read that bridges between Georgia and Abkhazia were blown up, and the whole railway line is closed.

The funniest thing about that conflict is that Russian military literally saved Georgians from a complete defeat, they even evacuated their president from being captured by Abkhazians, and now the US-supported Georgian regime wants our peace-keepers out of the conflict area.

You still think that Russians sent a jet fighter to shoot down a drone?! :D A drone over a foreign territory?!

The footage is obviously a fake: Abkhazians showed a wreck while the film was shot over the sea. Anyway, what should a recon drone do over the sea? ;) Counting sardines?

I love this people in the West who believe every idiotic crap about Russia, just because we are evil and Stalin killed all the Jews as they said on History channel.

but on the plus side, you have some beautiful women over there :D

The drone was shot down because it violated a cease-fire agreement between Russia and Georgia.

an UNARMED drone violates a cease-fire? :O
