Who's going to Farnborough?
« on: July 07, 2008, 05:16:35 AM »
My oldest son and I will arrive in UK on Friday July 18th.

I will drop him off with some cousins and then go to a lunch organised at the Martin-Baker "chalet" at Farnborough that afternoon (kids under 16 are not allowed).

Head back to pick up my son and then drive to Bristol.  Check into a hotel and hook up with Swoop.

Next day my son, Swoop, possibly Swoop's chick and I drive back to Farnborough for a day at the airshow.

After we leave there I hope to make one diversionary stop at a boarding school I attended many moons ago...principally to give the place a one-fingered salute and to show my son where I spent three years of hell...then head to London.

Sunday morning we have some breakfast with Swoop and his bird and then say cheerio to the (hopefully) happy couple.  Then my son and I will have a day in the City.  He has all the stuff he wants to do all sorted out and has had alot of fun picking what he wants us to do together.  Later on that evening we will head back to Gatwick, overnight in the airport hotel and fly home Monday.

I have a major major deadline to meet for this Friday to meet before I can get too excited about this trip but we on *on track* to make the filing deadline.  Just gotta get through this week.

Farnborough can be very much fun ;)
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

Wish I could make it mate. Unfortunately I think I'm getting married around then. Would have to check with my woman.

One of the best functions of this site is the quality hookups.  WTG Swoop!  Take good care of Curval and his pink shorts.

Dowding...I think your wedding might trump the airshow.  :)

Mitch...Indeed.  Swoop always looks after me I can assure you.  Two weeks ago I'd still be driving around one of those roundabouts if I didn't have him and his phone with google maps to help me out.

Having said that Swoop scared the flipping life out of me last time.  I arrrived in from Moscow on an earlier flight than expected and checked in before Swoop did.  I thought he'd get there first when I made the reservation, so I made sure he had access to a key.

I had not slept in about 48 hours so when I laid down on the bed I fell asleep almost instantly.  Swoop sneaks in later on, grabs my feet and yells "WAKE UP!!!".

He couldn't even talk for about five minutes because he was laughing so hard at the look on my face when I did in fact "wake up".  Thank goodness he didn't get a video or pic of it.
