AvA arena ever ?
« on: November 10, 2000, 12:18:00 AM »
Many of us keep our accounts for scenarios and with the expectation that one day we will have an axis vs allies arena with a historical planeset . My question is how far off is this arena, or will it ever come ?

Please no hijackers replying with his idea of what a good arena is or would be .

My guess is two fold:

1)  not until there is a somewhat larger player base

2)  Not until the Azis has bombing equity (or close)

Currently Allied and Axis fighters are roughly on par with each other, but the Axis has weak bombing ability and NO useful fighter-bombers at all.

Of course, the Axis has Osties and tanks.....

Hi Suave1, good question.

Some of us have actually cancelled our accounts for lack of any seeming interest in this topic from HTC.

Scenarios kept me for about 2 weeks, these cannot be done with historical planesets  yet or anytime soon except perhaps the Pacific which eliminates all but one Axis power.

Seems like we have 2 options, fly what they send us or leave till they send us what we want to fly.

The first week is the toughest.

When did they put this thing in here and WTF is it for?

I've flown other sims and found AvA arenas typically deserted for the most part.
The only sims which had AvA arenas that didn't have this problem, only offered AvA.
(no way would i like to see that in Aces)

The only reason I still hold my sub to FA is that I hate flying for Chess pieces or generic countries.  I for one like having to pick a country with a history based plane set.

Warning: Do a little reading of the AGW BBS, or talk to some WBs turned AH players.  WB's main arena has been axis vs allied for several months now.

It works in scenarios obviously, or as another seperate historical type arena you can visit once in a while...but please don't ever force it on everyone in the main arena like WBs did.

What it boils down to is most folks dont want to be restricted by any field or planes set..unrealistic? YES! but then again look at the bomb modeling and tell me if realistic is what really counts to most folks?

Obviously we need a pork arena for the gamers . We shouldn't replace it .

I just can't believe how many nights sleep I've lost worrying about the accuracy of the bomb modeling.

Bowser, I'm afraid you are quite wrong.

WB still has the main arena, in which you can fly for any side.

The WB WWw arena is an axis-v-allied arena, with limited planeset.

Now I cannot speak for the situation 24/7, but I can tell you for a fact that in my timezone the usual balance in WB is:

Main Arena - 6 online
WW2 Arena  - 50-80 online

It seems the customers have spoken!

Its simple, HTC wont be making another arena that draws numbers from the MA fantasy arena.

AH : Maniac
WB : -nr-1-
Warbirds handle : nr-1 //// -nr-1- //// Maniac

Jekyl,

When I say WB's main arena, I mean the arena where everybody flies.  The equivalent to the AH Main arena.  Obviously a lot of people like the WWII arena, but there are also tons that don't.  I'm not going to go into the pros and cons here...that's why I suggested AGW.  The reader can decide for themselves I'm sure.
