March FSO Help
« on: February 12, 2009, 10:23:06 AM »
Gents,

If anyone has a detailed electronic Air Order of Battle for the Luftwaffe in Italy, circa September 1943, can you either PM me the details or link it here?

Thanks,

Stoney

Stoney I have good references that I can work up something from for you tonight.  But incase it is urgent, here is the OOB after Tunisia but before Husky..

Look for 17 May 1943.

[edit] November 1943... closer.

Luftflotte 2 Fighter Units As of July 10th 1943. (Invasion of Sicily) I believe all flew the Bf109G.

Foggia was abandoned by the Luftwaffe at the end of September 1943.

IV./JG 3 (Left Sardinia at the end of September)
II./JG 27 (Ordered back for Defense of Reich Duty July 30th 1943)
Stab JG 53
I./JG 53
II./JG 53 (Left Italy for Austria at the end of September)
III./JG 53
Stab JG 77
I./JG 77
II./JG 77
III./JG 77 (Left Italy for Rumania at the end of September)
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

I was working off this:  http://wikipedia.ketsujin.com/index.php/Luftwaffe_Order_Of_Battle_on_17_May_1943 as an approximation.  If this is close, it will work.  For the most part, I was merely looking at numbers and plane types.  Obviously, this is pre-Husky, but I'm having a hard time finding anything that was current for Avalanche.

There's a period from May 1943 to early 1944 that seems conspicuously absent.  Maybe it got burned when they left Foggia.

Thanks for the help so far.

I wish I had some to add besides the following:  Sept 1943 in Italy sounds like a GREAT time frame for an FSO.  Looking forward to it already!

I've gotten what I needed Hajo, but thanks very much for the offer.  I may take you up on it in the future.
