new motherboard / computer - missing engine sounds

just built a new box.
Here are my specs:

X52 hotas with ch pro peds

Everything works great, nice and smooth - AH has never looked better but i do not get any engine sounds. No startup, flight or eng off sounds. I hear all the other sounds I think ie flaps, gear, hits, flak, etc but not a peep of eng noise.

the board has two types of onboard sound -  AC97 & HD-Audio. I think I'm using the HD audio.

any suggestions?

You made the mistake of installing the ATI sound card drivers.  Remove them.
