Carriers
« on: March 18, 2009, 07:30:02 PM »
Just wondering What Individual Carrier We Have in-Game. As far as My info Goes, Essex was CV-9 We Have 15. (says 15 On the Side of the smokestack On the Rear of the Island) Is my info wrong? just wondering because I'm not 100% sure.
I Know there was more than one carrier In the Essex class, But wasn't the screen-shot of the Ships saying we Got The Updated Fletcher, Baltimore and Essex? Or Just the Class of what we Got With No Specific Names and Not the lead Carrier of the Class?

Just A short Clearing up... I was Just curious...   :)

If it's CV-15 then it's the U.S.S. Randolph. Took part in the Battle of Okinawa and air attacks on the Japanese home islands.  There were 24 carriers in the Essex class.

Laid down: 10 May 1943
Launched: 28 June 1944
Commissioned: 9 October 1944
1 July 1953
Decommissioned: 25 February 1948
13 February 1969
Reclassified: CV to CVA 1 October 1952
CVA to CVS 31 March 1959
Struck: 1 June 1973
Fate: Scrapped 1975

The pic ack-ack posted is a post war angle deck mod.  Originally Essex class carriers were straight deck carriers. Like they are modeled in the game.

Yeah, that's the first thing I noticed. I figured it was a late-war or post-war modification.

Ouch  :uhoh

I know it was Postwar-Mod... What I was Wondering what Number We had matched up To what carrier it was, that's why, Even Though it was a Postwar-Mod (Can Clearly see the 15 on the deck and the smoke-stack, To match up to ours) I Got what I was Looking For. The Name of Number 15 (Randolph) and that's What I was Hoping For...I got it Thank you  :salute

Not only the 15 and angled flight deck but also the Grumman Trackers on the deck.

Essex/Ticonderoga... Tico was essentially a longhulled super essex carrier, all after were
built to the this new pattern.. Some diffs, but not many.. Mostly increased bunkerage,
better facilities for aircraft service, larger crew compliment, and newer model AA guns...

Interesting topic tho.. Which one does ours depict?
