vid card help?

i have an older system with a new biostar p4m900-m4 motherboard
2.8 single core pentium processer 2 gigs ram.

i had a freind give me an nividia geforece 6800xt card 512mb  tried putting it in but it didnt work.

looked it up on newegg found the same card and it says its an agp card   i have a pcie2.0 board
was wondering what the diffenrece is i know it wont work.

but heck it was free     

got to looking and a evga 8600 512 card is now running about 70 bucks wondering if thats a viable option for this game. and also found a soundblaster audigy se card at walmart for 20$ is that worth it? (got to be an improvement over the onboard sound and vid)

PCI-E is a different slot. All I know.

Don't buy the 8600 I beg you. I'm not up on this as some but I had one and didn't like it and gave it to my mom. Mom had issues and we had to get her a new card. I would look at an ATI 3850 to 4850 if I were getting a modestly priced card.

yea lol sucks for me i get a free vid card and cant use it. he said he had a raidon card too but i dunno if its agp or not.

he used to build computers and he said he s cleaning out his shop i got a nice samsung 17 inch lcd for 30 bucks

Goober, yes, that sound-card will help out the processor. However, don't expect the sound-card to be great or trouble-free. Those low-end Audigy sound cards are a real pain!

I've run an SB Audigy for a long time now. Pretty good card. Have to get drivers from www.creativelabs.com though. Used to have this "software auto-install" feature on the webpage, but they moved it or redesigned the menus. Search around for it.

Audigy2 supposedly better as far as the chipset support and technology goes.

I found some bad reviews on the Sound-Blaster cards. However, this one seems to work quite well (if you don't have Vista):

There are a number of sound cards built around the C-Media sound chips.  Personally, I would not use any of them given the very, very poor driver history.

Ah. I'm only familiar with the Creative sound-cards. I suppose I should start looking into the sound chips and not the manufacturer's brand name.
