I had to rewrite my massive mission, but now it's working with the current version of Aces High!

The mission recreates the battle of 30Mar1944, in which 80 allied heavy bombers, escorted by dozens of P38 fighters, caught the Japanese defenders unprepared and smashed most of Japan's air assets on New Guinea.

I've published 3 different versions of this missions. The first two are for older versions of Aces High. If you are using the current simulator, you'll want the 3rd of the 3 versions. Get it here:

http://techvideoreview.com/FlightSimMovies/

Follow links for "Aces High", -> "Offline Missions", -> "The 1944 Hollandia Campaign over New Guinea".

This mission will make big demands on your computer, so if your rig struggles with online combat or with smaller offline missions, you might want to look elsewhere. Otherwise, enjoy!

:aok Great mission! Even though I have recently made some "instant action" missions, I still appreciate the historicals. No problems with file size on my machine. BTW I think the radio chatter is freakin sweet. It adds to the realism.  :salute

See if this helps. I made this image for a mission I made that requires a country reset.

I should have made that more clear.

You will need to assign the "Hollandia" and "Aitape" airfields to the Knights, and the "Wewak" airfield to the Bishops. I've enhanced the web page with detailed instructions on this process. There are some more new thoughts on setup tweaks and hints that you might want to check out there, too.

Hi Peabody,

Just curious. I've downloaded the latest of your versions, and have the latest AH patch.

I've tried the Hollandia raid and all went fine the first time. All the P-38 mixed it up with the Zeros. But after that first time, and from then on, no AI P-38 breaks formation. It does give me a chance to get 16 kills or so  :lol

I've tried all three of the P-38 formations and now none of the AI planes will join the fight.

Did the very last patch .4 do something?

Do you, or anyone else, have any ideas?

Best.

My machine just freezes up after a few minutes and have to reboot to get out.

I've been away for awhile and have not downloaded or tried the latest AH versions, so I don't know if something in the latest patch is incompatible with that [very big, very complex] mission. It will probably be a couple of weeks before I can find out. Sorry... I'll get to it as soon as I can. I hope I don't have to rewrite it again. Sigh....

 :aok

Thanks - all warps still work, but after the first time I ran the mission the AI fighters do not attack.

Nice Mission by the way! Very much a Peabody production.

Best.

Well.... bad news again

I downloaded the latest version of Aces High (V2.18 Patch 8) as of this date (21Apr2010), and now my big, complex, rich Hollandia mission fails for me. It runs ok, playing all of the introductory audio and voice banter as expected, and the massive strike force becomes airborne,

BUT....

As soon as the first Warp Segment is hit, the display freezes and is completely unresponsive. I had to CTRL-ALT-DEL and kill the process.

This is VERY DISCOURAGING.

So far I've written several simple missions, and as a test I wrote just this one massive, sophisticated, historically-based one. I got it working. AH was updated and it stopped working. I rewrote it and got it working again. AH was updated and it stopped working again. I rewrote it again and got it working again. AH was updated and it stopped working again.  Now it's broken again. Anybody see a pattern here?

My original intent was to publish a comprehensive series of historically-based offline missions, but this pattern has made it clear that such an effort is just not worthwhile.

Note that my simpler published mission still works OK (it has no warp segments. I confirmed that the AI fighters DO engage one another). Find it here:

http://techvideoreview.com/FlightSimMovies/AcesHigh/Ah2Missions/SolomonMelee/Ah2OfflineMissionSolomonMelee.htm

I remain a big fan of Aces High, and it's clear that their revenue does NOT come directly from offline missions. But with the demise of free H2H and the inattention to offline missions, I think that some great recruiting tools, which could bring a lot of newbies in, are lost.

I'm not going to write any more missions until I see some assurance of stability and compatibility.

Apologies to the group for "venting" like this.... it's just so frustrating.

I know how you feel. Hopefully these issues will be resolved when they release a newer version of the ME. I installed updates and all of my old missions (including my download of yours) failed to work. So I reinstalled the previous versions of the game and ME and now I can only get a few missions to show up and work in the game. Anything new I make with the old ME and old AH game work fine (my George Preddy mission e.g.) but all my old missions fail again. :frown: Just going to wait and see what happens.
I know I can fly and I know I can shoot, just not at the same time.

I feel your pain, Peabody.
I stopped for the same reasons, and I don't think my missions were nearly as complex as yours.

:frown:  Sorry to hear of your wasted work Peabody. No point in working on it till the ME gets stabilized.

By the way, if I fly Japanese there appears to be more action, though it is amusing to see B-24s peeling off like fighters into what looks like a low yo-yo.   :huh

 :aok  Best.
