He later flew Supermarine Spitfires (II, V and IX) with 331 and 332 squadron in England and became squadron leader in 1943. Later he served from Leuchars in Scotland, flying a civil route between Leuchars and Bromma (Sweden) in a Lockheed Lodestar.
