F4U-1C was based on F4U-1D

Hi

I was looking through Burt Kinzey's "F4U Corsair in Detail and Scale" today and the first words of the opening paragraph of the F4U-1C section said.
I didnt write it down exactly but here it is.

It is a common misconception that tha F4U-1C was an F4U-1A airframe with 4 20mm cannon, it was in fact based on F4U-1D airframe.
Then it described how the 1C was built in between construction blocks of F4U-1Ds.

So if there is any FM difference in the 1C and the 1D, it has to be changed and made like the 1D  FM, as they were both the same airplane.

thanks GRUNHERZ

GRUNHERZ,
Pyro (or HiTech) has stated that they are using exactly the same flight model.

The -1C and -1D both use the same flight model. Without external ordnance, the -1C is about 100-200 lbs lighter than the -1D.

I will see if I can talk Redwing into scanning the picture we have of A 1C that has a centreline drop tank and a birdcage canopy.  It seems that they could have modified both 1A and 1D airframes in the process. (not that it makes any difference at all to me which one the 1c in AH is modeled after since the weight difference will make some change in how the plane handles   )
