I want the P-51C.
All jokes aside, it would be kinda cool to have the C as a birdcage model, though i'm not particularly sure how much that would change things.

just my 2 cents

The P-51C is the same plane as the P-51B, made in a different location.

Was always curious why our version has the Malcom Hood vs the birdcage. Considering it was a field mod, and at the same time our B/C doesn't have the dorsal field mod. Just random thoughs not wishes...carry on.

You're thinking of the Cavalier Mustang (wiki  :o)

The P-51H was a lightweight, Allison powered Mustang developed right before the end of WWII.  It never saw combat, anywhere.

No where in the article you linked to is Allison power mentioned.

No you didnt read it right. I was talking about two different planes The H being the ultimate piston engined plane with the turbo-prop engine plane being developed long after the war. The Turbo Mustang III (your Cavalier) was introduced in October 1968 with a Rolls Royce Dart 510 turbo-prop engine. The Dart engine installation is basically a Vickers Viscount power package complete with cowling that is very different from the typical Mustang (including armor protection around the powerplant). There was no further need for the radiator inlet behind the wing and the wing was further hardened for extra ordinance. There was also a Mustang II line created from older Mustang airframes but the Mustang III came from a fresh factory line.

The P-51H was the result of the lightweight Mustang experiments. These tests included a special dive brake apparatus with an additional hydraulic system. The dive brake was designed to create a downwash to the horizontal stabilizer and these planes reached mach 0.76 under full control in dive tests. At least one model tested could reach 20k in 3.5 minutes.

At one time we did have the birdcage.  Be happy we now have the malcom hood.

Now if we could just get the malcom hood on the spitfires. :noid
