Strawberry Deathcake
« on: August 30, 2009, 12:13:31 AM »
We have gone to the last two roller derbys of the season in DFW. Actually quite fun. Here is my daughter this evening...the small one that is...but the derby girl's name is just that, Strawberry Deathcake. Some of those ladies are big and I mean in a powerful kick your butt sort of way.

Found out that one of my girfriends (from all the way back in kindergarten) is a roller derby girl. I'm interested in finding out what it is... basically attack roller skating?

This video explains what it is:

There's a whole subculture around it.
Used to hang out with a bunch of them before I moved back out to the coast. Tough as nails. Scary. And hot.  ;)

Talk to LLogann, he is a photographer who has a gig once in awhile taking action shots at Roller Derby matches.  At least I think he told me that once.   :D

If so, she'd probably hit you right back.

The local Dallas Derby Devils version is rough but there is typically not any direct fighting. That's kinda frowned on and there are penalties. A lot of familys with kids go to these....like myself. There is plenty of roughness without fights.

These monthly competitions are to raise money for the "travel team" from Dallas. This is the one that actually travels the country to compete with other teams.

Check out the video from BigBadSportsDaddy on the site. That was the one we went and saw last month.

The names some of these girls use are funny like Miley Virus. Here is my Audrey with her yesterday evening.

Hey, one of my best friends just quit as the coach of the Green Country Roller Girls.  He still goes to all the bouts, just the coaching got to be too much of a time eater for him.  I've been to several of them myself and know a number of referees.  It's good and fun stuff.

Given your tendency towards heavily airbrushed babes I wouldn't be so sure swoop :D
