buildings up or down?
« on: September 28, 2009, 01:11:35 AM »
Shouldn't town buildings burn, smolder and smoke more, like some of the objects on fields?

- Easier to judge how freshly put down a building is or how stale the kill is.
- Easier to judge from the air if a building is down or not,

Before you beat this up, let me throw the first two punches.

- The added graphics load may make this idea a non-starter.
- The view of objects in town from GVs and CV guns would be somewhat obscured.

+1  :)

What if we can go to the menu where you can see what is disable or available over that base.

What if we can get a new line there: Town Disabled

Smoke would also obscure the view of attacking aircraft.

One way to approach it with stages would be to have the destroyed buildings be just that, destroyed (a pile of rubble). Then, if you want the buildings to show that they are about to up, build them to the point of how they look currently in the condition when they are dropped.

glasher couldn't make out the last sentence. What about just have some scaffolding pop up around the buildings that are about to rebuild.
They call it "common sense", then why is it so uncommon?

I love this idea, overall.... +1
Buildings have a tendancy to burn when bombed or shelled.. And smoke DOES obscure vision.... +1
Rubble in the streets has a tendency to impair movement, and break tracks or wheels on vehicles... +1

But I can see it now, the town looking like a KISS concert, with all the little BIC LIGHTERS LIT!!!  LOL!!!
It'd be nice to have some new flame animation first... Otherwise it would look pretty silly!!!

I'd say not to make them smoke, per se, but...I dunno, "cloud." Particles billowing a few feet from the windows and holes, not the standard "burning styrofoam" type smoke we have now.

That what I was wondering.

Would it be any worse than when you kill the fuel tanks on a field?  They burn.

Its not one or five buildings.....its 50, shear quantity would drag it down.

This was mentioned before... and someone suggested that it not be every building that burns (or smokes) in the town.  Perhaps a random chance that a building will smoke when it goes down... or make just certain ones do it... like the churches  :t

smoking is absolutely a bad idea due to frame rates.......... think of flying over a freshly hit refinery with every building smoking.... kills your frames but most tend to avoid the refineries and never notice the problem.......... now imagine that same frame killer at every base on the map

as far as telling if the buildings are down........ I dont see where this is a problem at all ........ its very easy to tell up or down from the air unless your @ 20K

I dont see where it would hurt though to have some sort of flat/halfway/rebuilt system in place though

I guess the only advantage any change could make in my mind is time til rebuild......... takes 45 minutes but if you didnt see a building go down you dont know if you have 44 mins or 1 min left

Or if you click on base to check its status, it tells you that FHs are down Ord is down etc.

One step further would be to add town percentage to the list , very much like factory percentages.

But then again, there are few things that give me more satisfaction than seeing guys falling all over themselves to get troops into a town that(unbeknownst to them) still has the church standing! :aok

And they keep coming back over and over again!! :rofl

or like me that took my pain medication a little too close together and brought m3 three times only to get killed by ack.  everybody was yelling that town was down, eventually I  realized that I was tuned to the right chanel but was on the wrong base.

LOL, semp!!!  Well, even that isn't as bad as making an M3 run to the town, thru an intense battle that has been raging for hours, getting the all clear from your buddies, and dropping SUPPS at the maproom!!!

Been there done that :uhoh... My flyin buddies weren't happy with me :furious...

So it goes in AH'land, LOL!!!

Would be cool but..................

LAG LAG LAG.

Who has ever experience a big drop in frames when milk-running the "refinery"?

If every town building has smoke we'd have 30 threads per week about stopping it.

No offense.
