GREAT FIGHT AT V234!!!!!!! And if you weren't there you missed a really great GV fight between the squads from both sides.
to VFM-101 and the 327th for the Allied support and coordination in taking the base.
to the AXIS squads and VF-15 in particular who the 325th VFG dueled with for 30 minutes.
The 325th used a offensive defense to secure the base without taking it. In short we moved quickly to over watch positions overlooking the objective (map room), set up fire by support positions and waited holding back our troops and supplies. The 101 and 327th maneuvered to the right flank to engage the enemy. Our plan was to force the enemy to move first, kill them and then move across the base for the capture. But as all plans go it never goes exactly like you planned.
It looked to me like the AXIS choose a left flank maneuver to the target area and then used long range gunnery to engage the objective area. Hiding behind a hedge for 10 minutes I never saw so many 75mm tracers come by in my life, I thought they would never run out of ammo
From where I was at much of the fire was coming in from 2 - 3K and none of my rounds were fired at less than 1000M.
The squads fired and maneuvered against the others trying to gain the upper hand for a full 30 minutes. With about 3 minutes to the end neither squad had taken the base yet. The AXIS let their troops run first with their 251 letting them out from a covered and concealed location but getting gunned down in the process entering the map room. With 1 minute to the end CUTT (325th VFG) made the run to the map room in his M-3 for the capture. We almost had a situation in which both sides troops were entering the map room at the same time
It was a really good battle and a good location with fairly even terrain and distances to cover for both sides.
In my opinion what tipped it for the Allies side was the coordination and command and control of the 3 squads on the Allied side. Again
to VFM-101 (MGD) and the 327th (KOOL) for the half dozen e-mails exchanges prior to the attack to better coordinate our attack and some great maneuvering on our right flank. Also all of the pre-mission runs offline by CO's were critical in identifying strengths and weakness's for both sides.
to HighTone (Allied CIC) who made the plan and tasked the squads. Great selection of squads / numbers and general guidance. Just what was needed.
This was a great GV battle and any of the squads that get this tasker should enjoy it. Its a good match up and in our case went right down to the wire with the win coming in the last minute of the battle.
